Sustainability Hub

Sustainability at 港彩开奖

As a Union, founded on the principles of representing and fighting for students, we have a responsibility to defend the futures of not only our members, but the futures of young people around the globe. We officially declared a climate emergency in September 2019, and we are committed to taking practical steps towards climate justice.
This brand new Sustainability Hub is to explain how we’re doing this, and to give you all the tools you need to get involved in whatever way best suits you!

The University of York Students’ Union officially declared a climate emergency in September 2019. We recognise that we are living through a period of unprecedented ecological disruption, and that this crisis is not simply defined by carbon emissions and resource depletion, but it is fundamentally caused by global systems of inequality and exploitation. Those who are least responsible for climate breakdown will be the most severely affected by it-- and this doesn’t just refer to the millions of people living in the global south. The younger generations right here in the UK, including those currently studying here at York, will witness the consequences of ecosystem collapse in their lifetimes.

As a Union, founded on the principles of representing and fighting for students, we have a responsibility to defend the futures of not only our members, but the futures of young people around the globe.

港彩开奖 is committed to taking practical steps towards climate justice, and the first step of this is recognising that we’re not perfect. There is a lot more work for us to do and we want to be transparent in our efforts to achieve this. Internally, this means we are continuing to pursue campaigns such as the 港彩开奖 ‘Green Impact’ Scheme and improving the sustainability of all 港彩开奖 activity. This webpage also marks the foundation of a digital ‘Sustainability Hub’-- a place to share resources, events, and opportunities to get involved in local projects and campaigns. Our main goal is to better empower our members to take meaningful action towards climate justice, both as individuals, and as part of the York community. These webpages are currently in development, so watch this space!

We are also working closely with the University to achieve our sustainability goals. In October 2021, the University released its , as well as the . ‘Environmental Sustainability’ has been highlighted as one of the four key principles underpinning the Strategic Plan, but perhaps more importantly, the Sustainability Plan also pledged the University’s commitment to achieving net carbon zero by 2030. You can read more about what this actually means here. (Link to ‘On a University Level’ page). This is a huge step in the right direction and we will continue to hold them accountable in ensuring this target is met.

There are dozens of other projects and campaigns that are in the works, which we are looking forward to sharing in the near future! In the meantime, why not have a look for what you can do to get involved?
