Adopt an Activity
Our Adopt an Activity Scheme gives societies, sports clubs, volunteering projects, and media groups a second chance. If a student group is unable to secure a committee for the next academic year, instead of dissolving it forever, it now becomes available for ‘adoption’! That means a group of keen students can take on the group and give it a new lease of life.
You can find all the student groups currently up for adoption on this page. If you find one you’re interested in adopting, select it to find out more information!
Each group needs a President, Secretary and Treasurer (the 3 "signatories") to run.
If it's just you for now, you can still get in touch, and we'll hold on to your information so that if enough people express interest in adopting the group, we can put you in touch and you can lead the group together.
If you have a group of at least 3 people (including yourself), ready to take on the group already, fantastic!
Whether it’s just you that’s interested in adopting, or if you’ve got a full committee already, then you just need to email societies@yusu.org, or j.pledger@yusu.org for any Volunteering Groups. Your email will then make it to the relevant staff member who can provide you with more information on handing over and advise on completing the adoption process to formally ratify the group. This will include completing some forms and mandatory training.
Please note that an adopted activity can not change its core purpose, its name or its key affiliations in its first year. An activity being adopted should be continuing consistent with its existing and historic form. Alternative procedures are available to set up a new activity.
